PropertyOwner.us.org Top Roommate Complaints

If you are a property owner who plans to rent out homes or apartments, you want to have happy tenants. But some of that is outside your control. If a tenant has a complaint with a roommate, it can cause them to be late on the rent or try to break the lease. This is why you should screen any roommate situation before you let them rent a home from you. With that in mind, PropertyOwner.us.org thought we'd give you a list of the top roommate complaints.

  • Complaint #1 – The roommates work different hours. If one roommate works during the day and the other works at night, there are going to be conflicts because each will be making noise when the other tries to sleep.

  • Complaint #2 – Messy roommates. If one roommate is constantly leaving plates of food lying around or other garbage, it's going to get on the other person's nerves.

  • Complaint #3 – Music. If the roommates have different taste in music, that is going to cause a major problem down the line.

  • Complaint #4 – Lazy roommate. One roommate shouldn't feel like they have to do all the chores because the other is too lazy.

  • Complaint #5 – Horny roommate. If one roommate gets a sexual partner and they are constantly having loud sex, it can become incredibly annoying.

  • Complaint #6 – Someone comes to visit the roommate and stays for weeks at a time. This is not only a problem for the other roommate, but may put them in violation of the lease.

  • Complaint #7 – Broke roommate. If one roommate isn't making much money, they may not give the other roommate their share of the rent on time, leading to long-term problems.

  • Complaint #8 – Substance abuse roommate. If one roommate is constantly drunk or on drugs, it can create a dangerous situation for the other roommate.

What Your Property Inspector Won't Review Before You Buy A Home
Topic: Review
Buying a home is a huge investment.  PropertyOwner.us.org understands that. We've also learned over time that one of the biggest mistakes home buyers make is assuming that a property inspector will review all aspects of their home before they buy.

Sadly, property inspectors aren't required to review many parts of your home – and if you rely on their reviews, you may discover once you move in that you have to make a lot of costly repairs.

The most common thing omitted from property inspector reports are problems with the roof. They are only required to do a visual review of the roof from the ground. They are not required to actually climb up to the top of the roof to review it for any problems.

The don't have to review any area that is potentially dangerous or difficult to access. They also don't need to review your alarm system, fencing, pool, air conditioning units, heating systems, humidifiers, sprinkler systems, washing machines, or other appliances.

If any of these parts of your home end up being a problem, it is up to you to fix it. Many new home owners have had to spend thousands of dollars on these repairs because they relied on the property inspector's review of the property.

So, what should you do to make sure that these things don't turn your new home into a money pit? It's simple - hire a licensed contractor to review the parts of your home the property inspector won't.

You might pay a couple hundred dollars for this more extensive review, but if it saves you from buying a home with a lot of problems, it will be more than worth it. Of course, we also suggest that you review our property history reports before you decide if a given home is right for you and your family.
